INNER VIEWS: Megan thee Stallion
Last night, Meg thee Stallion, a 23-year-old rapper (and student) from Houston, Texas came to New York City for the first time and we were there for it!

It was hot and heavy at the intimate art and concert space in Ridgewood, Brooklyn when Meg arrived at her show at 1:15 am. I was having a Hennessy on the rocks under red light, next to two bathroom lines and a young, black, and beautiful crowd, when everyone started rushing to the stage to await Meg's arrival.
Once Meg was there, I can send the shock and excitement from her fans as they finally experience this 5’ 9” rap queen towering over them in a god-like way. It was clear they’ve loved her from afar for a while as her first show in NYC was sold out and they knew the lyrics to each one of her songs.

When I asked Meg what the difference was between her fans in Houston and her supporters in Brooklyn, she said “my fans in Texas are laid back, fans here in New York, they fan out here, New York appreciates good music. The fans here didn’t care about the beat, and we sang that hoe Accapella!”
When Cognac Queen came on as the final song, Meg opened up a new bottle of Hennesy and started pouring shots into their mouths. It felt like breaking bread together in some way.

In a true blue, monochrome two-piece set, Meg WORKED it on stage, even through "sweat, blood, and tears" she joked. There was a point when I was on stage photographing her when I paused and realized that this is her work. She loves doing this but this is ultimately her job, and she is DAMN good at it. Meg is professional and focused. In the 40 minutes she was onstage, she worked through a tight stage space, technical difficulties, too-happy fans, and even no ventilation! The girl is a star.

Meg rolled through with her stylist, her photographer, videographer and her momager Holly (a la Kris Jenner). I asked Meg how she first got into rapping, "my momma was a rapper, so when I used to go to the studio with her, I would sneak and write things down in my little kid folder. I used to go there after school and look at her and think, " I can do this. I want to do this."
Once Meg turned 21, her mom encouraged and supported her in her music and her public persona. Meg's success so far is an example of how vital unconditional love and support from your family is to your growth and dreams.
During our time backstage, I asked Meg what was next for her...
"I am working on a new project called Fever and going on tour with Iggy Azalea so buy the tour tickets because I AM COMING TO YOUR CITY!"
I have NO DOUBT Meg is well on her way up to the top in what will seem like a short time so stay tuned AND DONT ACT LIKE I NEVER TOLD Y'ALL, NEW YORK.
