DREAMWORLD 2017
Rocio Cabrera and Julissa Rodriguez AKA JAR, are two artists from the Bronx making art around what it is to be human, to make mistakes, to be sad, and to continue preserving through self-affirmation. When they announced their Dreamworld: An interactive Party Experience, we added it to our calendar, drooped the bullshit, and entered their Dreamworld for the night!
Rocio and Julissa not only imagined the world they want to see, they created it and brought us Dreamworld in Harlem.
Imagine a world (outside of your mind) where you could feel free to feel every single one of your feelings; sad (and then anxious about feeling sad), happy and confident AF, (ready to kick ass and take names), annoyed (because your home girl keeps complaining about the same guy you’ve been telling her to drop for the past two years, eye roll).
Now imagine that place being in an art filled living room at a house party where you and all of your homies would drink, light up, and grind on the white walls until they turned blue...
ocio and Julissa’s Dreamworld was exactly this; an escape to a place we could feel free to be bold and most importantly be you!
The cherry on the top was all of the art and merch (and even edibles!) for sale featuring Hood Antics, Bronx Medical Cafe, Rocio Art, Five Point beer, and last but not least, Art by Jar (including tattoos!!!!). Sterling and Sunny Cheeba were on the turn tables too!
Did we mention that it was Rocio’s 25th birthday and Julissa is now a mom to be?! I love and admire wanting to bring people and art (and make some money!) to celebrate serious life events like a quarter-of-a-century and a baby.
